A Temporary Matter

1.Shoba lets shukumar know that he has a dentist appointment next friday in the story, shukumar then runs his finger across his teeth showing his reaction to what shoba had said about his upcoming trip to the dentist.

2.Shoba's secrets: Shoba said that once while Shukumar's mother was in town, she went to a bar to have a drink with a friend instead of working late like she said. She also confessed that once, while her and Shukamar had been dating for about 2 weeks she peaked into his address book to see if he had written her in.Shukumar's secrets: He confessed to hating the sweater Shoba bought him for their anniversary one year, and he got drunk at a bar in the middle of the day because of it. Shukamar also admitted to knowing the sex of their baby, and hid it from Shoba.

3. The soil in the potted ivy, as the narrator explained, was so dry that it had to be watered for the candles to stick in the dirt. Just as the relationship between the Shukamar and Shoba, it needs change before it will actually begin to work. The water symbolizes the change that needs to take place so that the soil will form to allow the candles to stick.

4. The game Shukumar and Shoba play becomes a temporary thing along with their relationship which fell apart. They completely lost interest in one another and started to avoid each other, so they both knew that faking their love was temporary.

5. I think that Shoba is sad, "She wore a navy blue poplin raincoat over gray sweatpants and white sneakers, looking, at thirty-three, like the type of woman she'd once claimed she would never resemble. "
